Life is 90% attitude

What is extremely important when it comes to changing any aspect of your life?  For some, that might be quitting smoking.  For others, it may be losing weight, changing careers or leaving a bad relationship.

ATTITUDE!

That’s right.  I learned something awhile back that’s changed my perspective on virtually every aspect of life.  Maybe you’ve heard the saying as well.

“Life is 90% attitude.”

The viewpoint goes something like this.  There are things in our life that we can control.  There are things in our life that we can’t control.  What we can control in either situation is how we perceive the situation.  Is it good or bad?  Postive or negative?

I think a lot of our perception of what we deem a bad situation stems way back to when we were children.  So many of us have or had authoritarian parents who used a strict discipline system for child-rearing that focused more on the negative than the positive.

When we did something great, we probably received some kudos, kisses and “ad-a-boys.”  However, that positive reinforcement didn’t last nearly as long as the one-hour lecture on why we should have received a better grade.

I don’t know, maybe your house was different.  The point is this.  We were geared toward thinking that mistakes were bad.  In fact, mistakes are imperative for growth.  When we make a mistake, we have the opportunity to learn and grow from the experience IF that’s how we choose to perceive the situation.

So, back to the attitude is 90% statement…

If life is 90% attitude, then it’s imperative to strive for a positive attitude.  How can we do this?  For one, look at life’s disappointments or mistakes as opportunities rather than negative things.  What did you learn?  What did you take with you?  Where can you go with it now?

Another way to encourage a positive attitude is to quit stressing over the little things.  I know this is hard to do, but you’ll find it extremely liberating if you are able to set aside the little annoyances in life such as heavy traffic or a rainy day when you’d planned an outdoor activity.  Go with the flow!

And last but not least, look at problems as though they were merely “situations.”  Don’t attach yourself so much to every difficulty.  Look at it more pragmatically and figure out a way to work through it.  “This too shall pass” could be your new attitude.

Think now for a minute how all of this might change your outlook on quitting smoking.

1.  You’ve merely made a mistake by smoking.  Learn, grow and move forward.

2.  Don’t sweat the small stuff!  Smoking has become so entwined in your life that you may be worrying and wondering how you’ll enjoy your coffee or glass of wine without your cigarette.  You’ll find other ways!

3.  This too shall pass…. those nic fits only last a short, short time.  With a little help from Ciga Cease, you’ll get through it!  I promise!

I hope this information helped you as much as it helped me years ago!

10 Tips To Help You Start Taking Control with Positive Thinking.

10 Ways to Begin Taking Control with Positive Thinking.

When first considering ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) you would not think to combat it with positive thinking. But many of us with ADD develop negative thinking patterns because we become frustrated by our challenges and frequent feelings of being overwhelmed. A negative outlook only magnifies the situation, making it all the more difficult to handle challenges and move forward.

Positive thinking will help people with ADD to better concentrate on their accomplishments and strengths, giving them more motivation and joy in life. It will help in better using your time to work on making progress, rather than feeling discouraged and helpless. You can use the following tips to help you begin to have a more positive outlook and change your thinking process, in a way to help improve your quality of life.

1. Take Good Care of Yourself

It’s much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For

When you take the time to remember some of the things that are good in your life, then stress from the challenges you face are not as difficult. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions

Fear can be a strong negative thought process that can rob us of living a healthy, good quality life and often our fears and worries are unfounded. If you have a fear that a friend or family member’s bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don’t waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.

4. You Should Not Use Absolutes

Have you ever told a partner “You’re ALWAYS late” or complained to a friend “You NEVER call me”. Thinking and speaking in absolutes like “always” and “never”, makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts

Your thoughts can hold power over you if you don’t judge them. When a negative thought begins to invade your thinking, you need to recognize it right away as a negative influence, immediately change your thinking by turning it around to something that will make you stronger and happier.

6. Get rid of the “ANTs”

Dr. Daniel Amen, founder of the Amen Clinics for, ADD tests and ADHD Tests, authored a book called; “Change Your Brain, Change Your Life”, in which he talks about the ’ANTs’ - Automatic Negative Thoughts.

These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like “Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me” or “The boss wants to see me, it must be bad”! Begin to recognize these ANTs for what they really are, and then stomp down on them!

7. Practice Lovin’, Touchin” & Squeezin” (Your Friends and Family)

Giving and receiving a good hug can go along way in making your day better. Showing positive physical contact with your family and friends and even your pets, is a great ’feel good’ interaction, one that we all need in life. There was a research study conducted, in which a waitress was told to gently touch some of her customers on the arm as she gave them their checks. Her tips were noticeably higher from the ones she touched, then from the customers she did not touch!

8. Be Involved with Some Sort of Social Activity

By increasing social activity, you will decrease loneliness. Find people you can be with that are happy and positive in their outlook on life, then you will notice how very contagious that sort of thinking can be.

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person

Once you help other people that are hurting, you will also help yourself, because you will feel good inside knowing you helped to make a positive difference in someone’s life. There are several ways to do this, you can volunteer your time, resources or money. You may have heard it said, ’Give and it shall be given’, this is a true saying and the more positive energy you put in the world, the more you will get back.

10. Have a New Thought Pattern to Fight Against Depressing Thoughts.

A great way to stop thinking unconstructive thoughts is to interrupt the pattern by forcing yourself to begin thinking and doing something completely different. Recognize old thought patterns that may be hyper-focusing on something negative. That way of thinking is never productive, but only leads to stress and unnecessary anxiety. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.

Find sayings, scripture verses or quotes that will help motivate you to remain positive in your thinking, the following are some of my favorites: Oprah Winfrey - “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” “Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours” - A Swedish Proverb

Gratitude Attitude

Hot Tip! Develop a loving attitude to all around you.

The supposed festive season fills many with excitement, and many more with dread and apprehension. It is not a happy time for all. Conflicts and past grievances with family, friends, and former spouses can all rear their ugly head at this time of year. Amidst all the excitement there are many who lament this time of year.

It does not need to be a dark time however. A Gratitude Attitude is something you can cultivate that will sustain you through any habitual dark holiday sentiments and create a wonderful quality of life for yourself.

A Gratitude Attitude is simply this:
Savour every thing that is good in your life, from the big things to the little things. Make a list of what you are grateful for: the sun rising another day, a purring cat, rain falling on a dry landscape, the gift of sight, your favourite magazine, learning, having a roof over your head, people you care about, a comfy bed, having teeth to brush, the ability to smile.

Hot Tip! When you see the signs of a negative attitude or feelings creeping in your mind, say STOP; instead start visualizing those vividly beautiful pictures of success and contentment.

Overwhelm yourself with reasons to feel grateful.

Then share your gratitude by giving as many gifts as you can each and every day through the holiday season. This does not mean literal gifts, it means sharing of yourself, of your soul: smile at people -anyone- in the street, give a waitress a compliment, phone up an old friend and tell them you care about them, say “thank you” and really mean it, say “good morning” to others on your morning run/walk (even if they do not acknowledge you - you will have given them a gift!)

Hot Tip! Their life will feel stable and therefore they will feel contented, happy and therefore able to venture into the world with a carefree attitude.

Create the joy you want in your life by letting it flow freely from you. Be the source of all good things, rather than a waiting recipient.

Most importantly be kind to yourself. You are worth it.

Your Attitude Determines Your Success

Hot Tip! When you see the signs of a negative attitude or feelings creeping in your mind, say STOP; instead start visualizing those vividly beautiful pictures of success and contentment.

Your attitude is the number one criteria to your success in wooing, winning, and wedding the woman of your dreams. I’m sure that you have heard that many times before. But it’s true.

Attitude is the most important aspect to success in any venture.

You need three things to be able to successfully court a woman half way around the world: Personal resources, a plan, and commitment. Of these three, commitment is the most important.

If you have commitment, you will find the personal resources and you will persist until you succeed.

We all have the potential within us to achieve great things with our lives. We can be anything we want to be. I think most people would accept the findings of brain researchers that we only use a small fraction of the potential power of our minds.

Most people would accept that if we are prepared to set goals, make plans, and work hard, we are likely to achieve much more with our lives. We would have the ability to build better lives for ourselves and our families, than we would if we just do the minimum required to get by.

Hot Tip! When you are going through a bad time, think about others who have gone through adversity and made it out to the other side. Count your blessings, and recall other people who have turned bad attitudes around.

We may know and accept these things, but that doesn’t mean that we are prepared to act on this information and actually do something about it. Why is that? I think that the alternatives are often just too attractive and easy to pursue than to put in the work necessary to achieve our goals.

It may not be that difficult to put in the extra effort required that could make a big difference in our lives, but the reality is that it’s much easier not go the easier softer way. There is one overriding factor that makes the difference and determines our actions, and that is our attitude.

Hot Tip! Their life will feel stable and therefore they will feel contented, happy and therefore able to venture into the world with a carefree attitude.

Our attitude is the deciding factor to what we experience in life and the attainment of our goals in so many areas of our life.

If your attitude toward your job is that you aren’t prepared to do anything outside your job description, or even less if possible, you may feel pleased by getting one over on the boss, but you’re unlikely to be considered for a promotion.

Many people enter into a personal relationship with the attitude that because they’ve been hurt in the past, they are likely to be hurt again. It’s this attitude more than anything else that will insure that these predictions are likely to come true.

Hot Tip! Get acquainted with highly successful people with tangible achievements. Right association and acquaintance will make things easy for you to develop positive attitude.

If you approach problems with a “why does this always happen to me” attitude (a victim mentality), you’re likely to not only attract problems, but also have difficulty dealing with them.

Your attitude largely determines your expectations for the future, what you want from your life, and what you are prepared to do to insure you achieve your goals in life. If your attitude is ‘what’s the point?’ or ‘it’s not worth the effort’ you’re sure to be proven right.

By the opposite also holds true. If you’re prepared to make more of an effort in your job, it’s likely that this will be noticed and you will attract promotion and growth opportunities.

Hot Tip! Thrivers have an attitude of gratitude. Because they have faced many unpleasant and usually life-threatening challenges in their lives, they are thankful for all the riches they receive.

If your attitude is generally optimistic and you don’t expect to experience problems, you’re not only less likely to do so, but when you do, you’ll most likely find solutions more easily so you can quickly get back on track.

Hot Tip! Develop a loving attitude to all around you.

If you have a positive attitude and look forward to every day for the opportunities it will bring, you will find more opportunities. If you write down your goals, you will make the plans necessary to achieve your goals and take appropriate action. You are well on your way to achieving your ideal life.

With an attitude of positive expectation, you’ll not only achieve more, but you’ll also experience more satisfaction in your daily life.

Other people can influence our attitudes. The media, our choice of friends, and relatives. We are also affected by our life experiences. Unfortunately, it often seems there are more negative than positive influences.

We cannot control other people or events, and things will happen that we don’t like that may affect us in some way. But what we can and must control is how we react to these things. No person or event can control or change our attitude - unless we allow it.

Hot Tip! Find attitude mentors, people you can call for an infusion of excitement and enthusiasm. These are people who can teach you, often through their own accomplishments, what having a positive attitude can do for you.

Likewise, no one else can really cause us to become upset or angry. When this happens, we are giving other people control over our lives and relinquishing control of our most basic human right - the control of our own mind. I’m sure you’ve all seen those signs in offices that go something like ‘Everyone brings joy to this office, some when they enter, and some when they leave.’

Which one of these people would you like to be known as? Would you like to be known as a person whose attitude gives the impression they are walking around with a permanent rain cloud over their head. Or would you rather been known as a someone people look forward to seeing? Which person do you think has a happier and more fulfilling life?

A wise man once said, something like ‘it’s not your aptitude, but your attitude, that determines your altitude.’ If your attitude is not working for you, it’s probably working against you. Your attitude can be holding you back in ways you don’t even realize. No one else can control your attitude; it’s all up to you. Change your attitude and change your life.

Hot Tip! When I have a positive attitude, I can be successful in anything I desire to do. “Positive any thing is better than negative nothing.

14 - The Benefits Of A Positive Attitude

Hot Tip! Thrivers have an attitude of gratitude. Because they have faced many unpleasant and usually life-threatening challenges in their lives, they are thankful for all the riches they receive.

Two people look at a glass which is half filled with water.
Are you the person who sees a glass that is half empty or do you see a glass that is half full?

We have a lot of choices in life. We can choose to look at things the negative way and always see the dark side of situations, or we can choose to be positive and live a happy and fulfilling life.

Why is it so important to live a positive and optimistic life?

Of course it is important to live a positive life, because it is so much more fulfilling. Optimism is synonymous with positive mood and good morale. It is also linked to athletic and academic success, to success in career and politics, to better health and longer life and moreover positive individuals are much more attractive to people than negative people are.

Hot Tip! Get acquainted with highly successful people with tangible achievements. Right association and acquaintance will make things easy for you to develop positive attitude.

Now, I hear you thinking. The rates of depression and pessimism amongst people have never been higher than they are today, no matter the age group. These days it is affecting older, middle aged and younger people all the same way.

Although it is not the easiest thing in the world to change in our life, it is important to realize that being a pessimist instead of an optimist is a matter of choice. We can choose to be positive or negative.

So, experience how the self motivation tips hereunder are the key to change. Do some self motivation exercise so that after a while you acquire the necessary self motivation skills in positive thinking.

Recent studies have shown that positive people are hit by the same hard smacks in life as do the negative people. The difference is just in the way they deal with the pain that comes from these smacks.

Hot Tip! When you are going through a bad time, think about others who have gone through adversity and made it out to the other side. Count your blessings, and recall other people who have turned bad attitudes around.

Positive and optimistic people tend to be convinced that these moments of pain are temporary set backs and that these events are in their lives to learn a lesson from, so that they can grow, while negative and pessimistic people tend to believe that unfortunate events have an influence on everything they do in life and they are convinced that such situations will last a long, long time. Besides they either tend to think that such events take place, because they always befall to them, or because it is all their own fault.

Positive people sooner perceive these negative events as challenges or opportunities and they get stimulated by them to try harder. You will never hear them say things like: “That is always happening to me in my life and it’s never going to change” or “Everything goes wrong as usual and also this time it will definitely effect other area’s in my life”.

They believe that when such statements are actually being expressed they will work as self-fulfilling prophesies and they refuse to put this energy out ahead of them.

Hot Tip! Be selective about the books and magazines you read, the shows and movies you watch, the tapes you listen to. Remember that just as inspiring movies can improve your attitude, too much negative content can have the opposite effect.

Positive people are hardly ever manipulative people and they appear to be far less dependent on others for their own happiness. They have the natural talent to draw people towards them, because they are surrounded with positive, balanced and cheerful energy.

Negative people tend to react strongly to stressful events, by denying that stress is bothering them. Moreover negative or pessimistic people tend to avoid dealing with their negative situations and they give up more easily when problems or difficulties arise.

Positive people on the other hand are much more stress resistant. In general positive people are perseverant and they don’t give up easily. And it is in this way that they seem to get closer to their dream or passion each step of the way.

Hot Tip! Their life will feel stable and therefore they will feel contented, happy and therefore able to venture into the world with a carefree attitude.

Medical research has shown that positive people have an unusual good health and that generally they age well, without having to go through the illnesses that middle aged people tend to go through. Their bodies appear to have a much higher stamina level and a better ability to fight disease and they usually get older than the people who allow their lives to be lead by negativity.
