How Long Does It Take To Be Successful

Concentration and staying focused are possibly the most difficult things to control. You are inundated daily with so many distractions. Stop wasting valuable time reading mail designed to sell you and pull you off track, focus on yoru goals and you will get there. In no time at all one or two hours have drifted by and are gone forever.

Time goes by at a great pace even though the second hand appears to be going slowly the days fly by, even with written goals time can still be your worst enemy.

There is nothing wrong with enthusiasm, but unless you write your goal out fully you will neverget through the rough periods. Then life gets in the way. We all suffer from family ailments and emergency but the truly focused professional can handle them and use them to make great strides in their quest for success.

Dont they just give you a great excuse as to why you didn’t do this or that to bring your goals to completion? If only that hadn’t happened, if only I had more time. Putting your goals on paper is great, putting that piece of paper somewhere safe is not, you must read your goals at least twice a day.

I will now let you into a secret, now I am hoping you will not broadcast this to everyone - Life gets in the way  but the more successful individuals have developed techniques for keeping their focus on the goal DESPITE what is happening around them.

I had the experience last week of watching a Premiership Footballer in the UK playing with all the positive determination of a true professional, his fans were not aware that he had been woken at 2:00am that morning to learn of the sudden death of his younger brother in a car accident. Now that is focus.

On a lesser scale watch any true professional who can hold their concentration despite what may be happening around them. I well remember when I was learning to play golf. The guy I played with, played off scratch {if you do not play golf - that means he was good!}, as I started my back swing he would cough or noisily open a bag of crisps, carefully designed to put me off - well yes - but he also taught me to ignore what was happening around me and concentrate on my swing. So that my subconscious took over when I needed inspiration in negative circumstances.

Watch your son or daughter play a computer game and see the powerful force of concentration on their faces as they destroy the baddies. My son even at 19 yrs of age, when home from university, doesn’t hear a vacuum cleaner or me come into his room when his concentration, set on his goal of saving the earth, is successful.

Listen to this - now look at your goals. Is your journey one of successful completion or do you drift from thing to thing, even to the extent that you do not make the goal at all!

There is a supreme secret in goal planning that will guarantee that you never drift off course, so that you will always have time to work on your goal achievement each and every day to accomplish all you commit to achieve. It is your choice, you are ready for success aren’t you?

When you know why you drift you will be able to steer a straight line toward your objective? The clue to achievement of all your goals is on this page. As Napoleon Hill said in his wonderful work; ‘Think and Grow Rich’, the secret to wealth is within the pages. He did not tell you what the secret was as he wanted you to discover it for yourself, that is a positive powerful form of leadership.

The secret to goal achievement is in this article, but you have to find it.

For when you do you will achieve everything you want in life.

Because of the pressures of daily living you may not have time to commit  to do everything you WANT to do, but with focus you will have plenty of time to do everything you NEED to do. Making a decision to accomplish your goal is the major part of the goal setting formula, have you done it yet. And once you know the SECRET you will have focus and power to achieve what you may have thought was impossible.

Do it now! That saying can affect every phase of your life. concentration is the key to success. It can help you do the things you should do but don’t feel like doing. It can keep you from procrastinating when an unpleasant duty faces you. But it can also help you do those things that you want to do. It helps you seize those precious moments that, if lost, will never be retrieved.

Curing Procrastination And Achieving Goals

Those who consider procrastination to be a matter of laziness do not fully understand the psychology of the problem and instead claim that a boot is the only cure for procrastination that is required. On the other hand, even those people who understand that procrastination may be a manifestation of a deeper rooted problem may still consider that the perpetrator is procrastinating about seeking help.

Some people who have a tendency to procrastinate may in fact be suffering from depression or even attention deficit disorder which can both be underlying causes of procrastination. While procrastination is considered a behavior disorder, by treating other diagnosed issues it may be possible to offer a cure for procrastination at the same time. It is often recommended that those people who are chronic procrastinators see a therapist or a mental health professional to determine if there are other treatable issues causing them to consistently put thing off.

Therapy has been a useful process for people to change many behaviors such as phobias and, for example, the fear of flying. These types of upsets in a person’s psychological balance cannot always be treated with a pill, but a therapist can offer them a better understanding of why they have the particular behavior. Through this type of treatment a person can usually begin curing procrastination if it is required.

Continued Procrastination Can Lead To Addictions

When a person continues to put off doing certain tasks, they usually focus their attention on other, sometimes solitary projects. It is possible that someone who fails to set about curing their procrastination will end up addicted to, say, the computer, if that is what they turn to to take their focus away from something else that should be done. Hiding behind a computer screen offers them self-justification for putting something off, but an addiction to the internet or computer gaming may be a sign that procrastination help is needed.

Attention deficit disorder, while typically associated with children, has lately become a more common diagnosis for adults who cannot remained focussed on one thing for a long time. When this leads to procrastination seeking help for attention deficit disorder can also lead to a cure for the procrastination.

In the majority of cases procrastination is displayed as an avoidance behavior where the individual will perform other tasks unrelated to the project they are ignoring. By learning and adjusting to new behaviors, as well as understanding what draws their focus away from their planned project, a cure for procrastination can be found.

Part of the process of curing procrastination is learning to set smart goals. Setting achievable goals and taking steps towards those goals can create breakthroughs in many areas of our lives.

What’s In Your Mind Today

As you read every word of this article you will learn that you can create your own future history.

Although we have made tremendous progress in medicine there is a final frontier to conquer, and it is not space, it is the mind. The creative workings of the mind are still a mystery to medicine - being able to launch a man into space has still brought us no closer to finding out how the mind works.

I know you are wondering how your mind is creating your future.

Your thoughts are governed by whatever you see in your minds eye, and what you see is the result of all your life experiences to date.

We make decisions based upon our records of the past results we have experienced that are all locked away in our mind. When faced with a situation we draw on those experiences looking into our memory for an identical or similar situation and uncovering how we reacted to that situation and the result we had.

Unfortunately most people have a wealth of negative experiences on which they draw and it takes a conscious effort to visualise positive results for the future.

Most people who are successful meditate at least once a day, they may not surround themselves with flowers, candles and hold finger bells, but they find a quiet spot, relax and in the quietness build an image of the life they want in their minds eye. They see and feel the success they are aiming for as if it were already theirs, the impact it has on their lives and those that they love, dwelling on the positives in life this way will bring them about - for your mind is an instrument that you control and by filling it with expectations of positive outcomes which will serve to drive all your future action toward that positive outcome.

STOP! And ask yourself this key question - How can I develop my mind to set my goals and to always bring about positive results? Listen closely please; don’t rush headlong trying to find the answer when all you need do is take The First Step.

The Power of Belief

Ready? O.K. Here we go…W Clement Stone said, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe he will achieve.”

On May 25th 1961 J F Kennedy set out a major plan for the United States scientists when he declared to a joint session of congress, ‘First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.’

Up until he said that walking on the moon was the stuff of science fiction with the emphasis on ‘FICTION’.

It was in 1953 that Sir Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tensing stood at the top of the highest mountain in the world, when all said the climb was impossible becaus eof the lack of oxygen.

In May 1964 a young medical student, Dr Roger Bannister, won world renown, not for his skills in the operating theatre, but by doing something in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds that no man had done before
What did he do, he finally ran a mile in under 4 minutes! The stuff of comics and story books before he ran on a little race track in Oxford, against his old university aided by two colleagues in Chris Brasher and Chris Chataway. Even though eminant physicians had tried to prove that the human body could not withstand the demand placed on it by attempting such a feat.

Why are these events so important when you are setting goals, the individuals had an undying belief in what they wanted to achieve in spite of the number of knowledgeable advisors that surrounded them saying what they proposed could not be done.

Extra-ordinary human beings? No! Just ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things driven by the belief that it could be done.

It’s no doubt the number one secret of World-Class Goal Achievers. When all other things are equal, it’s the reason why one person makes millions and the other one can barely make a living. It’s the power of belief.

Look at you own situation, when was the last time you set out to achieve something only to be told by your family and peer group that you would never do it. How many times have you heard the little negative voice which is inside all of us tell you that you cannot do what you wanted to set out to do?

We all have conversations with our selves, whenever we are faced with a choice. This conversation takes place between our positive and negative selves. The positive will point out all the advantages to be gained from taking a particular course of action, whereas the negative voice will look at the experiences we have had to date and point out all the times we have failed to achieve a result. The experiences may or may not directly relate to the course of action we are considering.

Napoleon Hill said that faith was the most powerful force on earth (faith is belief without proof). Christians know that the power of faith has been described as being so powerful that a tiny amount (the size of a mustard seed) could move mountains.

Belief is nothing more than what we accept as true or real. Now here’s something important to understand: what we accept as true may not be true and it may not be real. But if we accept it as true or real it influences our decisions just as if it were.

Hey, slow down a bit that is a bit heavy. What I am saying here is that we have two minds, you will have heard of this before. The conscious mind and the sub-conscious mind. The conscious mind draws on everything that happens to our five senses, touch, hearing, sight, smell, taste whereas the subconscious has none of these experiences to draw on. Yet it is the subconscious mind that is the true driving force of our existence. When was the last time you had to force yourself to breathe, blink or whatever? Your subconscious mind takes over and we do things automatically.

By the same token it is also the home of your limiting beliefs - remember those conversations?

But we will look at limiting beliefs and how to conquer them elsewhere.

When I was at school it was drilled into us that THE ONLY WAY to succeed was to work hard, pass your exams to get a good job.

This is just not strictly true. Let’s look at some evidence, ever heard of say Bill Gates, the richest person in the world. Bill Gates dropped out of college without a degree. So that belief is obviously false.

Before you say, ‘It was alright for him he developed Microsoft and was in the right place at the right time. Did he know that when he set off to develop Microsoft?

Who is to say that that dream you have inside your head right at this moment will not cause people in the future, if you follow your dream through, to say of you, ‘It’s alright for him he developed x company’.

Listen, Dr. Maxwell Maltz, the legendary author of Psycho-Cybernetics said, “Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible.  This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs.” As Marting Luther King Jnr said, “You do not need to see the whole staircase, take the first step in faith”.
