Trophy And Other Awards - A Sense Of Pride And Satisfaction

sports trophies

The coveted trophy and other awards, such as plaques, medals and certificates are important pieces in the competitive world. Without them, it would be hard to remember who won things from year to year. Winning awards and trophies gives the winner a sense of pride and accomplishment. The history of the trophy travels back many years, and there are many places and events that now offer trophies to the winning competitor.

The concept of a trophy or any other award has been around for a long time. Some of the first trophies were probably hunting trophies. The hunter would use the skins and pieces of the animals that he killed in his home. Skin rugs and clothing were some of the first animal trophies. During Greek and Roman times when the Olympic Games were first created, the trophies from those games were olive branch crowns. This was a symbol of their skill as an athlete. From there, the concept of playing a game to win something evolved. Now, almost any competition has a trophy or award for the winner or winners. For small children, the trophy presentation involves giving one to all of the players, such as with a little league baseball team. The hunting trophy has also evolved. Many people who hunt like to mount the heads of what they killed on their walls.

A trophy and other awards are offered for many different kinds of events. Sporting trophies are awarded, such as the World Cup for soccer, the Stanley Cup for hockey or the Super Bowel trophy for football, all of which are awarded each year to the winning team. Other sports trophies are given out for other things as well. Academic competitions also will give trophies and awards to the winners. Many events, such as spelling competitions, science fairs and such will hand out trophies to the winners. For other games, other kinds of awards are given. Medals are favored for events such as track and field, and swimming. Ribbons and plaques are given out at different events as well. Ribbons are frequently given at smaller events and fairs. Some people believe that trophies and awards should be done away with because of the bad feelings they create among competitors, but humans are much too competitive by nature to ever accomplish that.

Winners of trophies and awards get a sense of pride in themselves. Any trophy is a fun way to show others what you have done. Part of this process is necessary to human nature. So for this reason, the trophy and the trophy winner’s legacy will be around for a long time.

Trophies And Awards Are Not Just For Super Achievers

golf awards

Life would be boring without competition. Competition would be meaningless without trophies and awards. We love winners and they love the honors, which spur them to keep performing better and better. Awards recognize the talent and efforts of winners. In addition to cash prizes, trophies are the best way to frame a memory on the wall of time. Trophy winners cherish these memorable events. Awards gain importance because of the honor and value attached to them. Their intrinsic value may not be much, but the prestige and value they carry in society is what makes them so coveted.

There are many occasions when awards are conferred. Graduation, career achievements, military service and excellence in sports; all are recognized with trophies, awards and medals. War heroes are decorated with medals and no sports event would be complete without awards and trophies. Sports trophies are given away in different categories, such as for baseball, hockey, soccer, football, tennis, golf and billiards etc. There are even events such as cooking, fishing, darts, cheerleading and bowling for which awards are given. The trophy presentation ceremonies are dignified affairs with elaborate arrangements. It is a moment of joy and excitement to receive awards. Recipients cherish these special moments throughout their lives.

Different types of materials are used in making trophies and awards. There are acrylic awards, crystal awards, metal awards, and glass awards available. Creativity in craftsmanship doesn’t restrict the making of quality products. It is also common to inscribe words of appreciation and recognition onto the awards. The shape of an award or trophy also have variety. Plaques, cups, bowls, plates, figures, crowns and plain geometrical structures are some of the many forms that they can take.

It isn’t just the well known super achievers who deserve trophies and wards. People in regular walks of life also deserve to be recognized for their contributions and efforts, especially if they possess merit or perform outstandingly. A champion athlete may have a room stacked with trophies and awards, yet a single medal or trophy would go a long way in encouraging a hardworking student, teacher, sales person, nurse, policeman etc. to strive to maintain a record of sterling performance. There are thousands of people working in jobs where appreciation is hard to come by for their sincere efforts. For them, being awarded a token “thank you” would do wonders.

A Memory System You Can Try Today

You may have heard of the loci mnemonic or memory system. The general idea is to “place” the things that are to be memorized in predetermined locations in your imagination, so you can “find” them there later. The origin of this memory system is generally attributed to a story told by Cicero, an ancient Roman orator.

According to the story, the poet Simonides stepped outside during a banquet. The roof of the hall collapsed, killing the people inside. Most were crushed beyond recognition. Simonides, however, knew the guests, and was able to identify the bodies by remembering where each had been sitting. This suggested to Simonides a system for memorizing things by associating mental images of them with locations.

Greek and Roman orators used this system to memorize speeches. Parts of the speech could be mentally placed in different places along a familiar path, for example. Then, while giving the speech, the speaker could walk the path in his or her mind and “see” the next part of the speech. This made it possible to stay on track in a speech - even a long one - without written notes. A speech could even be rehearsed and further memorized by repeatedly taking that walk in one’s mind.

A Memory System For Speeches

To explain further, suppose you’re going to give a speech about the need for better education for young children. Your system uses a stretch you have walked in the town where you live. You have selected twenty locations along that walk as your place-holders. These could be a tree, a store, a corner, a house, and anything else that will be easy for you to imagine and remember.

Now, let’s assume you are imagining this walk as you speak. You come to a mailbox that is along the route, and is one of your place-holders. In your imagination you see books spilling off the top of it. This is an image you created after rehearsing a part of your speech about the need for better textbooks in the schools. It immediately brings to mind that part of the speech, and you find it easy to continue speaking. As you finish that part, you have moved in your imagination to the next stop on the walk, of course, with another image that will help you recall the important points.

You can place more than one item in each location, as long as they are easily remembered together. For example, in the example given, as you reach a big tree that is along your way, you might have exams falling out of the tree and a huge cake underneath, to help you recall what you want to say about testing and rewards for good exam results. Strong associations help, and that usually means unusual associations, such as those examinations falling from the tree. More on that in a moment.

More Uses For The Loci Memory System

The loci memory system I relied on for years used ten locations in my home. They started with a window at the front of the house, followed by the microwave oven, the sink, and so on around the house. The locations were in order, starting at the front of the house and ending near the back, so it was easy to move from one “loci” to the next in my mind.

When I could remember to use the system (no joke intended), it worked very well for memorizing and recalling lists of things. For example, if I was on my way to the store and had six or seven things to remember, I would quickly place them in order in my system’s locations. Then, once at the store, I could easily walk through my house in my mind and recall everything on the list.

The key to making this work, is to make the mental images outrageous or unusual. For example, suppose the first three things on my list were bread, bananas and potato chips. I might imagine someone throwing slices of bread at that window, bananas dancing in the microwave, and I might see myself carefully washing potato chips in the kitchen sink. I could also have the potato chips dancing with the bananas in the microwave if I needed to fit more than ten items into my ten places.

With wild images like these, I have no problem recalling the list, even the next day. I just do a quick mental tour of the house. This is one of the easiest memory systems you can try, requiring only that you memorize ten or twenty locations along a route that  you can travel in your mind.

Hypnosis Home-Study Program Review - Can You Really Learn From Them?

Modern hypnotic methods are nothing like the stereotypes of the past.  Rather, contemporary hypnotic masters achieve astounding results in much more subtle approaches.  Anyone who masters the techniques can wield immense power in all areas of their lives.

The great fact about today’s world is that formerly hard to get information is now accessible to almost everyone.  The Internet levels the playing field.

Today the opposite problem exists – there’s too much to sort out.

There’s a lot on the Internet that’s just junk (to phrase it politely). We are living in a wonderful world at a fabulous time, especially when it comes to information.  Lots of folks offer courses and trainings, but how do you know which one’s are the best and which are junk?

I hope this bit of writing helps you out.  I’ve been fascinated by in the possibilities of hypnosis since I was a kid.  I remember when I got my hands on a paperback book purporting to reveal hypnotic secrets.  The book had a dominant spiral on the cover (spirals are an image of hypnosis almost as much as a watch swinging from a chain is.

That book was based on the old directive style of hypnosis. I have to say I learned some stuff from it.

That was the beginning of education in hypnosis.  By the time I was in college I was pretty facile with traditional approaches.

Over the years I’ve attended live seminars and training programs and collected almost every book and course I came across.  My excuse was that it was my hobby.

The most important shift in recent years has been the development and refinement of methods based on the almost unbelievable work of Dr. Milton Erickson.  If you’ve heard of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), that’s based on Dr. Erickson’s work.

Even in its simplistic form, this approach is way beyond what I was doing at those college parties.

The really good part is that there are several excellent programs out there.  The not-so-good thing is that there are too many pretty bad and even really bad ones as well.

How can you tell which hypnosis program merits the investment?  Which one will best help you reach your hypnosis goals?

Here are two ideas for your consideration.

The first is ignore a home-study program that comes without a great guarantee.  By great I mean two months or more to use it and give it a fair evaluation during which period you can request a refund if (it’s not working out.

You need at least two months because even with the accelerated learning of the best courses it’s going to take at least a week or so to start to see your life change.  It takes some more weeks to give it a fair trial.

I suggest the two month minimum is because life happens and you want to have some leeway in case something happens and can’t practice steadily.

A strong guarantee bodes well because someone with experience and a solid course has confidence that it will work as advertised.  That person also realizes knows that most people are honest so they aren’t afraid to offer a strong guarantee.

Really, the type of people you want to do business with wouldn’t want to keep your hard earned dollars if they didn’t give great value in return.

The second idea I’ll mention is let your subconscious mind help you out here.  I know that may seem odd, but hey – I’m a hypnosis believer.

Following are three excellent courses in no special order (I wrote their names on 3×5 cards, shuffled the cards and have the names listed in the order that came out).

These are top notch courses. I honestly think any of these is worth using.  Each of these really delivers more than some of the live seminars I spent 1000’s of dollars to attend.  You can’t go wrong with any of these.  If money is no object (or this is your hobby like it is for me) go ahead and order them all.

If that’s not the case, start by getting clear in your own mind as to what yo hope to learn whichever course you take.  Is it to help with your career?  To help with relationships?  Tohelp you reach your goals?  Everyone has different reasons.  Know what yours are.

Once you’re clear on what your goals are, click on the links to find out more about whatever program you’re curious about.  Let a hunch or a whim guide you - you don’t have to go in the order listed.

As you do this, you might feel more drawn to one than the others.  Or you may feel a real connection with the first course you consider.

Notice those feelings.  Go ahead and order that course.

It’s also possible that one may not be a clear choice for you.  In that situation, flip a coin.

Remember all of these are backed by rock-solid guarantees so there’s no risk to you.

Think what it would be like to be a master influencer in one month.  With any of these programs and a little practice, that could be your reality.

So here they are.  Here are the best I’ve found:

Underground Hypnosis

The Power of Conversational Hypnosis

The Art of Covert Hypnosis

Look them over, pick the one you’re drawn to and get started! The sooner you get started, the sooner you’ll have the power of hypnosis at your command.

Stress Is The Top Health Problem In The United States Today

Stress has been widely reported in the news as a health epidemic for more than twenty five years now and the situation continues to worsen as a growing number of workers report that they are suffering increasing stress in the workplace. In fact work is now the main environment for stress in adult Americans. However levels of stress have also risen for children and teenagers in the past few years and many now link this to a loss of family and religious values, insufficient social support and also corporate greed.

Stress these days is more dangerous than it was a decade ago and looks to be more prevalent and more invasive than before with a greater degree of stress coming from psychological instead of physical threats.

Stress leads to a rise in heart rate and greater blood flow leading to higher blood pressure. Levels of blood suger also increase to provide the body with the added fuel which it needs to fight off stress and our body is programmed to push blood away from the stomach when under stress in order to provide additional strength in our legs and arms as part of what is often referred to as our “fight or flight” response.

Stress contributes to chronic depression and anxiety as well as to gastrointestinal and skin problems and disrupts the work of a number of our major organs. It can also create an impairment of the immune system so that it cannot fight viral conditions from the common and not especially serious cold to very serious conditions such as AIDS and cancer.

Stress in the workplace directly influences such things as absenteeism and productivity and the business climate gets progressively worse with competition nowadays at an all-time high. The pressure which is placed on workers to produce and the constant worry about job security can cause several conditions including neck pain, back pain, hypertension, stroke, ulcers, diabetes and heart attacks.

Many things can produce stress including just sitting at a computer monitor for six hours every day or more, meeting targets or having somebody checking on you constantly. In these situations the results are typically seen as depression and several physical complaints which result in lost working days.

Taking the steps to manage the stress you have in your life may well be the best gift you can give yourself and just a few fairly simple changes to your lifestyle can make a huge difference to the way in which you handle stress. For example, taking 20 minutes each day to walk will lower your stress as will talking to friends and colleagues, meditation and prayer and following a healthier diet. Take the time necessary to learn several relaxation techniques because breathing and relaxation exercises can considerably reduce your level of stress.
